Artwork Description

Quietude. A state of stillness and calm held within a person or place; a sense of freedom from storm or disturbance.

This self portrait depicts the artist in a moment of introspection; a brief respite from the chaos of the outer world.

Artist Bio

Casey Thornton is a figurative realist oil painter from regional Western Australia, with a keen interest in the techniques used by the old masters. Her keenly observed and highly detailed works aim to capture an authentic representation of the world, and invite a quiet moment of pause, introspection and welcome respite from a constantly ‘switched on’ world.

Thornton studied a Bachelor of Humanities (Fine Art) at Curtin University, and in recent years has studied at The Art Academy in Adelaide. Her artworks are held in private collections across Australia and overseas, and one piece has been selected for inclusion in ‘The Nova Collection’ lunar time capsule.
