Gilly by Cassie Holmes
This piece is part of my recent Feathery February collection. For this collection I painted Australian birds from the top 10 Australian birds of 2023. The Gang-gang Cockatoo came in at number three.
Gang-gang Cockatoos are little cockatoos, with beautiful wispy feathers on their heads. They are mostly recognised by the male species, who have lovely scarlet feathers on their heads. They are found in the south-eastern parts of Australia.
I painted a pair of each bird because I like that they have a friend. I painted two males of this species because I enjoyed painting the scarlet shades on their heads. I finished them off with a very pale yellow in the background. I use thick oil paint and palette knives to create the texture, including adding it in the background of my pieces.
This piece is on a 20cm x 20cm cradled wood panel, which is 3.8cm wide, allowing you to stand it up on a shelf. It also comes with wire ready to hang. It is unframed but the sides are painted. This piece will look lovely hanging on a wall, particularly with its partner, or standing on a shelf or bench.
** Please note that the sides are currently unpainted but will be painted prior to shipping. I will paint the sides a colour to match the background of the piece. However, if you would like the sides to be painted in a neutral light grey, cream, black or something else then this is your opportunity. I have left them blank in case you would like to purchase a few different ones and would like the edges to all be the same colour. You can contact me to let me know what colour you would like the edges. If you’re happy for the edges to be similar to the background, then there is no need to contact me. :)
