Artwork Description

A tranquil interior scene where Mid Century architecture merges with a sunset landscape.
The chair featured is a Vladimir Kagan Contour Chaise designed in 1950, which I think is the perfect choice for relaxing by an open brick fireplace.

If you’re a feline owner like I am, you’ll know that your cat will only sit on the most expensive and comfiest chair in the house!

Please note the edges of this work are painted in black.

Comes with a certificate of authenticity.

Artist Bio

Cath Michael is a Brisbane-based fine artist whose practice explores nostalgia, memory and mid-century modern aesthetics through contemporary realism and geometric abstraction.

Known primarily for her detailed realist paintings, Cath depicts still life scenes, mid-century furniture, vintage objects and retro interiors. Her meticulous approach captures the clean lines, textures and distinctive geometry of her subjects, transforming familiar objects and spaces into visual records of cherished memories and bygone eras.

At the heart of Cath’s work is a fascination with the emotional connection we form with objects and places. Through her paintings, she seeks to preserve these fragments of the past and evoke a sense of warmth, familiarity and nostalgia.

More recently, Cath has expanded her practice into abstract geometric works, drawing inspiration from the bold forms and iconic supergraphics of the 1960s and 1970s. Bringing a fresh perspective to her enduring love of retro design, these pieces are designed to sit harmoniously within both contemporary and mid-century modern interiors.

Cath’s paintings have been selected as finalists in numerous art prizes and exhibited in galleries throughout Australia, gaining recognition for their detailed craftsmanship, nostalgic character and timeless appeal.
