Artwork Description

Our lives are fragile collections of moments, experiences and memories—each one adding another thread to the tapestry of our existence.

No two moments are ever the same. Yet, when woven together, their imperfections, contrasts and fragments can create something unexpectedly wonderful.

Like sunlight passing through a cracked window, fractured pieces allow unexpected beams of colour and light to emerge from the shadows. And somehow, in all those fragments, there is beauty.

Artist Bio

Cath Michael is a Brisbane-based fine artist whose practice explores nostalgia, memory and Mid-Century Modern aesthetics through contemporary realism and geometric abstraction.

Known primarily for her detailed realist paintings, Cath depicts still life scenes, mid-century furniture, vintage objects and retro interiors. Her meticulous approach captures the clean lines, textures and distinctive geometry of her subjects, transforming familiar objects and spaces into visual records of cherished memories and bygone eras.

At the heart of Cath’s work is a fascination with the emotional connection we form with objects and places. Through her paintings, she seeks to preserve these fragments of the past and evoke a sense of warmth, familiarity and nostalgia.

More recently, Cath has expanded her practice into abstract geometric works, drawing inspiration from the bold forms and 1970s Supergraphics of the Mid-Century and post-Mid-Century eras. These works bring a fresh perspective to her enduring love of retro design and are created to sit harmoniously within both modern and Mid-Century Modern interiors.

Cath’s paintings have been selected as finalists in numerous art prizes and exhibited in galleries throughout Australia, gaining recognition for their detailed craftsmanship, nostalgic character and timeless appeal.
