‘Vantage Point’ Acrylic on Canvas 50cm x 60cm x 1 cm (D)
This painting was inspired by a spot that is high up overlooking Lyall Bay in Wellington NZ. A place that I call my childhood home. Lyall Bay is a popular surf beach, it faces the Cook Strait and runs between two large headlands. I love going up to this high look out because it feels like you can stand up here and see everything and everyone. I used to spend many hours on this beach at the local surf club. It is very grounding when I go home to just go up to this spot and be reminded that everything is still as it was. I painted this when I was longing to feel close to where my parents lived. I wonder if everyone has that one place that is grounding when they return home.
What I love in this painting is the way the ocean circulates everything and the softness of the blue mountains in the background give that sense of being surrounded.
For me, the picture is a reminder that there is always somewhere to ground yourself.
This artwork requires framing. I suggest an white frame to offset the surf.
