Artwork Description

76.2 cm (H) x 101 cm (W) x 1 cm (D)
This painting was inspired by a photo from the Hooker Valley Track, New Zealand. That’s the South Island of NZ - the famed Aoraki/Mount Cook ranges. I chose to paint this image because it felt like it represented strength and a sense of solitude. These huge mountains looming over the gully and circulating the river rushing through - nothing else around, almost like if you shouted it would echo. I painted it at a time when I was feeling extremely alone with the loss of my mum, in my own grief that no one could really make better. I imagined it to be a place of quietness and still apart from the water continuing to always move no matter what got in the way - like life just getting on regardless. My favourite part of the painting is the ranges in the distance highlighted with purple and the red to give warmth and love.
I think the painting is a reminder that everyone can feel alone when grief hits hard but it doesn’t last forever and life just keeps keeping on.

This artwork requires framing. I suggest a white frame to highlight the snow on the mountains.
Signed on the front.
Vanished Satin.

Artist Bio

I am an abstract artist and much of the colour and subject matter in my art references my own experiences and emotions around stunning landscapes in NZ where I was born and Australia where I now live.

I have also been a TV Producer and Casting Director for over 20 years, working for overseas TV networks and Australian broadcasters.

As a child, and right through my 20's, 30's and 40's I have loved to paint and create and after the loss of my mother it became an outlet.

I mainly use acrylic's, concentrating on bright, bold colour combinations – challenging the idea of traditional colour in everyday scenery and incorporating big loose brush strokes to allow a sense of movement.

I am motivated to make my mum proud and to bring joy to someone’s day with my pieces of art.
