Hi, I’m a Brisbane based artist and Illustrator. Although I was born here in Queensland I spent several years in London where I studied art at Westminster University. Here I was able to explore different methods of working and I especially enjoyed screenprinting, overlaying colours and shapes and experimenting with different ways of mark-making. Ancient Egyptian art and the repeating patterns, shapes and figures from Greece and Mesopotamia made a big impression on my work. The British Museum was my second home!
Since returning to Australia with a young family I now find that acrylic paint is the quickest and most colourful way to express myself. I love to lose myself in the detail, bright colours, textures and patterns that I see repeated everywhere within the natural world and enjoy bringing my visions to life.
I grew up beside the beach, so the marine world with its bright corals, shells, plants and fish has always been an endless source of inspiration, as have my 3 children. When they were younger I painted lots of mermaids, fairies, goddesses and dragons and also illustrated a children’s book. I like to think I have kept that “faraway” fantasy element in my artwork and I find that painting gives me a wonderful opportunity to escape and explore.
