I interviewed many wine makers about the specific characteristics of different grape varietals. Using the words as inspiration I translated them into abstract colour. In a crossover of the senses colour as taste.
Malbec was described "Boysenberry, blueberry, blackberry, mulberry. Plum with lifting violets. Smoke, chalk dust, not green. Exuberant, juicy velvet, generous, plush."
Forming my third exploration in my series "Before the Wine" these oil paintings on aluminium are created all prima using palette knives and overlapping, lingering, intense colours.
The aluminium is attached to an inset wooden support on the back which allows the painting to 'float' on the wall.
