Artwork Description

I interviewed many wine makers about the specific characteristics of different grape varietals. Using the words as inspiration I translated them into abstract colour. In a crossover of the senses colour as taste.
Malbec was described "Boysenberry, blueberry, blackberry, mulberry. Plum with lifting violets. Smoke, chalk dust, not green. Exuberant, juicy velvet, generous, plush."
Forming my third exploration in my series "Before the Wine" these oil paintings on aluminium are created all prima using palette knives and overlapping, lingering, intense colours.

The aluminium is attached to an inset wooden support on the back which allows the painting to 'float' on the wall.

Artist Bio

As an artist I am inspired by themes of abundance and memory viewed through the lens of the natural world around me. The vibrancy and luminosity of fruit ellicits memories of my childhood, favourite family recipies, shared experiences and the joy to be found in the small everyday pleasures of growing and harvest.

Intrinsic to my art practice is creating works that raise the opportunity for discussions on issues vital to all the community, mental health, climate change, sustainability and valueing our environment.

Although I work predominately in oils, the concept determines the medium and my abstractions are often acrylic based.
