Artwork Description

The ‘Transposition Series’ developed directly from the ‘Before the Wine’ works. As music can be transposed from classical to jazz, or from one instrument to another, so I have transposed my realistic paintings into abstractions.
As I developed this process I realized there are six degrees of separation from the original subject. First, the object, of which I take series of photographs, my realistic oil painting, a photograph of the painting, followed by my computer manipulation of the photograph and finally an abstraction of that manipulation rendered as a painting.
It has been a privilege to have access to some of the oldest vines in the state and many viticulturists have been extremely generous with their knowledge and time.

Artist Bio

As an artist I am inspired by themes of abundance and memory viewed through the lens of the natural world around me. The vibrancy and luminosity of fruit ellicits memories of my childhood, favourite family recipies, shared experiences and the joy to be found in the small everyday pleasures of growing and harvest.

Intrinsic to my art practice is creating works that raise the opportunity for discussions on issues vital to all the community, mental health, climate change, sustainability and valueing our environment.

Although I work predominately in oils, the concept determines the medium and my abstractions are often acrylic based.
