After Bouguereau III

After Bouguereau is a series of drawings rendered in archival ink on handmade paper. The series takes as its starting point fragments of a large-scale painting made in nineteenth century France, placing those fragments under a contemporary lens.

By isolating a detail from the whole, Traicos asks what survives when grandeur is stripped away. What remains is form, feeling, and the trace of a hand. Working in a tradition-based technique in lightfast ink on premium, heavy-weight handmade paper, she draws a direct line between the original work and the present moment, collapsing the distance between then and now. These intricate drawings offer seasoned collectors a rare opportunity to acquire a foundational, archival artifact from an established contemporary practice.

Catherine Traicos is a visual and audio artist whose drawing practice is rooted in neoclassical form and time-honoured technique.
