Wallflower is a highly textured mixed media painting. The piece developed slowly, over a period of time. My intention was to allow the work to evolve without being overly concerned about the outcome. I mainly worked on the negative space with a botanical theme. Eventually, I could see a woman's face becoming apparent so I decided to paint her in. With her plain elfin looks, she reminded me of how the term "wallflower," is used, meaning, to just blend with the background and not bring any attention to ones self. She has been painted on a flocked pattern, so her skin has a beautiful textured floral pattern. (See third image.)
