I grew up in the north of England holidaying regularly in the picturesque Lake District, during my teens we climbed most of the peaks and mountains and I came to love the dramatic landscape and amazing skies in all seasons of the year. Moving to Tasmania in later life the mountains and skies, whilst different, still capture me in the same way. I took up watercolour painting 20 years ago as a means of accessing my creative side and fell in love with the medium and the way that it is only semi-controllable; a great contrast to my work as an engineer. The light here in Tasmania is very special and I relish the challenge of trying to capture its effects on paper whilst allowing the beauty of the unique scenery to shine through. But I have never forgotten my first love and still visit and paint the Lake District on our trips back to the UK to see our daughter and two of our nine grandchildren.
