My daughter and her partner came and stayed with us from Geraldton and she bought a bunch of Banksia bouquet at our local shop and placed them into a vase. Banksia's are one of her favourite flowers. She meant to take them home with her but forgot. For us in Perth, it was a lovely reminder of her recent visit.
While they sat on my kitchen table, the vivid colours of the banksia and the eucalyptus leaves, the colours were quite mesmerising. They are such a stunning Australian Botanical. I was drawn to painting them. I chose a blue/black background colour, so that the Banksia's colours would pop out. The colourful red hues interwoven with orange and yellow tones. I wanted to create the multiple ripples of the banksia and chose to use fluid acrylics and allow that to dry with the canvas horizontal and this has created a tactile piece of art. It is complimented with the leaves in tones of green. The pixelated pops of colour, dancing across the Banksia's, playing with both warm and cool hues.
The ripple effect of the banksia and to a lesser extent the leaves, enables a vision impaired viewer to 'feel' the banksia. The artwork is protected with 3 coats of gloss varnish.
Both natural and artificial light that bounces off this artwork, enhances the viewers experience.
Thankyou for your interest in my artwork.
