Artwork Description

My daughter left for twelve months abroad and the house went quiet in a way I hadn't anticipated. Life kept moving all around me — busy, colourful, insistent — but I needed to be still. This painting came from that place. The honeyeater in the centre doesn't need to go anywhere. He sits in the middle of everything and simply chooses where his gaze lands. Some seasons ask us to be the bird — not the branches. To let the world swirl around us while we find our own stillness within it. This is that season. Acrylic & oils on linen, primed, W 76 cm x H 102 cm x D 3.5 cm.
Frame not included.

Artist Bio

Cathy Schultz is a Perth-based contemporary artist with over 30 years’ experience across painting, photography, digital art and mixed media. Her digital practice begins with her own photography, which she transforms through digital manipulation, layering, colour and mark-making to create distinctive contemporary artworks.

Alongside her digital work, Cathy paints predominately in acrylics and spray paints, sometimes working in oils.

Inspired by the natural world, Cathy is drawn to organic forms, colour, texture and the unexpected possibilities that emerge through experimentation. Her work moves fluidly between traditional and digital processes, with each artwork evolving through an intuitive and exploratory approach.

Based in her Gwelup studio, Cathy continues to explore the relationship between photography, digital art and contemporary visual expression.
