Artwork Description

Anthony Bourdain was a legend of cooking and an incredible story teller.
The complexity of his character is brought forward by the play with the dark background.
The drawing was created with only 2 tools: a charcoal stick and an eraser pen. First, I covered the canvas with multiple layers of charcoal, then erased the light shades to bring the image out of the black. The more pressure is applied on the eraser, the whiter the image gets.
Because the eraser brings back the white canvas to its original colour, it is also possible to fit a light on the back of the artwork and have the glow shine through the image...

Artist Bio

Hi,

Thank you for dropping by...
My name is Cecile Michel and I am a pencil artist living in Paynesville, Australia.
I draw with graphite pencils and charcoal on stretched canvas to create strong contrasts and subtle shadows.
I love using the black and white theme to reinforce a sense of fun memories (like black and white photographs) but occasionally will throw in a few limited pieces containing colour... Just to keep thinks surprising and unexpected.
When I drew my first “Nostalgia” piece, I couldn’t stop smiling as I remembered the endless hours spent playing games with my cousin in our little village in the East of France; I wanted to share this feeling with you and hopefully you will find that object which is part of YOUR happy memories.
