Artwork Description

This art piece was inspired by the song IT MUST HAVE BEEN LOVE by Roxette particularly by the lyrics “It’s where the water flows, it’s where the wind blows...”, and this came to the colour of blue in this piece.

Love can be seen as passionate as the colour of red for which it stands for, but here I have seen it more as soothing and peaceful, just like the breeze and creek.

Artist Bio

Cecile Zhang (1996) is a self-taught artist based in Sydney, Australia. Born and raised in Shanghai, China, she moved to Australia to pursue her passions for art and life.

“The goal should never be the final product but the process itself - It’s about the creativity from start to finish.”

Working and practicing in graphic design and media areas led her to the love of the craft, resulting in a contemporary take on the much loved and combination of different techniques. With respect to the learning-by-doing mentality, Zhang has worked to develop her own style, using a limited color palette and most often black & white as the prominent colors.

Her paintings that feature mostly female figures with clean lines and a colorful touch of romance mirror herself as a feminist who sees through the power and beauty from women.

“As a hopeless romantic, I have always firmly believed that painting(creating) is a powerful form that allows you to accomplish what you have in your heart to your hands eventually. “

My goal is to focus on the romance, highlight their connection, persona and emotions in the understanding of the cubist shapes. While most of my inspirations come from music, movies and loved ones…, my understanding of romance has come to another sensation that has affected me to a large extend, and I want to evoke these passions deep down in my heart and I wish people are able to see thees emotions as much as I do.
