This unique painting is an amazingly tactile work, lush with texture. It is an abstract interpretation of a heavy metal gate and a rugged gritty sandstone wall at Middle Head, in Sydney Harbour National Park. Peering in through the gate, all one sees superficially is dark shadows... yet it is an entrance to a maze of tunnels and trenches. It's a fascinating place to explore, with significant military fortifications which date back to the 1800s. It is this location which has inspired a number of my artworks.
