Artwork Description

This piece entitled, "Vibe Check" belongs to my 'Landline Doodles' style, a nostalgic nod to the family notepad that sat by the home phone in the '90's. It was always filled with mindful / mindless doodles, numbers, names and patterns. Whilst listening to someone speak, light doodling gives the brain a simple motor task that occupies just enough attention to prevent excessive mind-wandering. The family notepad by the phone, filled with scribbles became a symbol of presence, the rhythmic marks helping the brain to stay engaged, absorb conversations and to remain connected to the moment.

For me personally, this instinctive and expressive style is deeply calming and produces only good vibes! I strongly believe these vibes will compliment and uplift the energy of your home, too :) Each of my works has a protective third eye to represent mindfulness, presence, connection and guidance.

Artist Bio

Chantal Obeid (@chantalobeidart) is a Melbourne-based artist whose practice centres on conscious creation and material transformation. Her paintings are expressive explorations of colour, movement and emotion that reflect connection and balance between mind, body and spirit. Whilst her her sculptural vessels explore themes of emotional and physical transformation, resilience and renewal. They are hand-built paper pulp clay made from up-cycled paper waste materials,

She has been creating art for as long as she can remember, beginning her journey in painting before taking a meaningful pause to focus on building a family. Motherhood became a turning point in her practice and upon returning art, her work evolved from two-dimensional painting into tactile, materially driven forms that reflect both personal and environmental cycles of change.

She is a mother of three and a carer to a child with high support needs. This lived experience deeply informs her practice. Endurance, tenderness, unseen labour and quiet strength are embedded in the forms she creates. Her vessels often echo the body and the land, holding space for vulnerability and resilience to coexist.

A former marketing consultant, she has since stepped away from commercial practice to devote herself fully to her art and being a full-time mother and carer. This decision marked a conscious realignment with her long-held creative calling, allowing her to explore slower, more intentional ways of making that honour resourcefulness, care, and sustainability.

She holds a Bachelor of Business (Swinburne University) and a Postgraduate Certificate in Art History from the University of Melbourne, a study she undertook to deepen and nurture her lifelong passion for art. This academic grounding informs her sensitivity to material, form and historical resonance.
