Chantelle Ah Chee is an emerging Nyikina artist residing in Perth who works with acrylic paint on stretched canvas. Chantelle is currently studying a Bachelor of Visual Arts at CQUniversity, and has just started selling her art after working for the Australian Government.
Chantelleโs work is contemporary Aboriginal art that tells the stories of her family and the feelings and growth that she has experienced due to post generational trauma of the Stolen Generation. Her style is either dark and neutral or bright with use of gold. She tries to express both of these elements using acrylic paints and traditional dot painting but in a way that shows that she is a young Aboriginal woman telling stories in her own unique way.
In the short time that Chantelle has been sharing her art with others she has had a lot of feedback and compliments. This has given her the confidence and encouragement to set new goals and follow the path to becoming a professional artist. By sharing her stories and experiences Chantelle hopes to create more awareness for the trauma that is still experienced throughout the younger Aboriginal generation and for viewers of her art to feel strength and connection.
