Artwork Description

The cheeky bright face of the iconic Australian bird - the pink and grey galah. These absolute character-filled birds have charmed me from a very early age. From our family pet bird who used to love eating butter (so we would frequently find beak-sized chunks missing), to the photo of me as a young child sitting surrounded by a flock of wild galahs (some even sitting on me!), I have adored these beautiful birds.

More recently though, I've been delighted and honoured to be visited by our local Perth Hills famous galah - Reggie! A privately owned pet who is permitted to roam free and even has his own wild galah-wife, raising babies, he still loves to visit local families (and his own original owner) for treats and chats. I never expected to actually be visited by him in my own backyard though, and absolutely adore his occasional visits! Reggie has inspired this particular piece, but I have tried to capture the cheeky spirit of these gorgeous birds in general.

Finished off in a lovely bright deep blue frame, this pastel-shaded painting is ready to add a burst of colour and character to your home.

Artist Bio

Born artist! I've been drawing and painting since I could hold crayons; ours was a very artistic home. My mum was also an artist, as was her dad before her, and so on. That is just my mums side. On my dads’ side there are more artists going back over a hundred years!

I don't think I had any other option than to be an artist myself, and am purely self-taught. This used to be a huge source of self-doubt for me, thinking I'd never get anywhere without some degrees backing me. However a wonderful friend gently reminded me some of the greatest artists of all time were self-taught (the likes of Van Gogh, Dali and Duchamp to name a few) and this helped me hurdle past some of the doubt. Like every artist on the planet though, this never disappears completely!

I often admire and study other works and use them as inspiration for my pieces, plus read articles to extend my understanding. I still learn something new with every painting I do, and I do love to challenge myself so am constantly exploring new mediums and techniques.

My emotions also strongly influence what I create, so you will find my work swings wildly from bold and bright to dark and mysterious, and I am humbled when someone falls in love with one of my creations. I am also hugely influenced by our natural world, and especially love to paint birds and other creatures.

All my art and products are created/kept in a smoke free environment. I do however have two cheeky cats who do their best to sneak into my studio while my back is turned!

For shipping, paintings are carefully and lovingly wrapped and packaged and will travel safely anywhere in Australia - ready to be displayed in your home!
