Unforgiving Haze

There is something about looking into the depths of a camp fire, or bonfire, seeing flames whip around, and hear it whistle and hiss. It fills me with awe at its beauty, warmth and ferociousness. But there is also an ongoing respect and fear for fire's ability to burn and destroy.

Chara Meredith is an artist based in Melbourne, Victoria. Chara's exploration of abstract forms and play of colour has been an evolution from all the doodles made in the margins of notebooks at school, pages of notebooks during lectures and work meetings, and backs of envelopes during calls.

The interplay of pattern, repetition and colour are a common thread in the pieces Chara has created for the last decade. Starting with glass mosaics 10 years ago, then screen printing and, in more recent years, Chara has brought this style on her return to acrylic painting.
