Artwork Description

Inspired by Ken Done's abstracts about a feeling, this captures for me those moments being by the harbour at night appreciating Sydney. I miss these views during Sydney's lockdowns in 2020 and 2021.

The feeling here comes from a plethora of moments: that time for New Year's Even when we stayed at a friend's place in Lavender Bay for front row fireworks; watching Vivid festival night lights colour quietly from Kirribilli; strolling around the Overseas Passenger Terminal on salsa night; leaving Luna Park at the end of a fun-filled day; growing up in Sydney when the 'Centrepoint Tower' made the trifecta of Sydney city landmarks. All these things and more.

It's a postcard I would send to myself in the future to remember. It's a postcard I would send to friends abroad whom we have not seen in a long while. It's a postcard sent with love from the city I grew up in.

Artist Bio

Charissa is a self-taught artist whose artistic style never really "grew up". She maintained her childish style of drawing through scribbles and doodles in the margins of her notebooks into the corporate world after graduating.

Since becoming a mum in 2013, Charissa re-discovered intuitive mark marking through her observing her children in their play. She is fascinated with the freedom and boundless imagination kids naturally possess in the creation of their works. They inspire her to be free in expression, colour and movement in combination with her 'left-handed state of mind' and abstracted perspectives.

In turn, the themes of her works are centered around her children along with a dose of nostalgia from her own childhood. She wants to gift fun and spark joy through her art.

A maestro once said "Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up." and she is determined to resolve this.
