Artwork Description

Gleaning imagery from second-hand craft books and house and garden magazines from the 1960s, the collaged composition delves into notions of space, scale and form. Piecing together fragments that transcend traditional still life and domestic paintings, the work highlights the intricate textures and forms of 20th-century object and furniture design.

Artist Bio

Charlotte Tatton is an emerging UK-born artist currently based in Adelaide, South Australia. Prominently working in oil paint, she focuses on capturing 20th century interiors and objects, exploring themes of domesticity, pattern and abstraction. By using collage as a drawing technique, Tatton creates compositions which play with spatiality and movement, translating them into bold paintings with a strong emphasis on colour theory.

Tatton recently completed her Bachelor of Visual Art at Adelaide Central School of Art in 2021. During her studies, she showcased her work in various student exhibitions including “Wish You Were Here” and the annual 10 x 10 exhibition at Central Gallery. She was also a finalist in the Byron Art Magazine Prize as well as receiving the Red House Group prize at the Gallery M contemporary art prize in 2022. Her artwork has been featured in Art Edit Magazine, and she has exhibited at galleries in Adelaide such as FELTspace, Adelaide Town Hall and Endspace Gallery as well as Galleries interstate including The Long Gallery (TAS) and Backwoods Gallery (VIC). Tatton has recently had her first solo show at Gallery M in Marion, South Australia.
