Artwork Description

I got sick in 2020 during lockdown with breast cancer and had to undergo radiotherapy. During that time, even in lockdown, I had a community of people rally around me, supporting me. I had a dream one night where they were all in a plane with me, and the windows were one long window, the moon had diamonds all over it and through the clouds and my body was vibrating. Under the moon, the community was working together, different communities including the GLBTIQIA+ community, Art community, Deaf community and my university study friends were all there. The upside down houses, shops and playground were an alternate reality, away from the exhausting radiotherapy and the communities were with me. Alternate Radio gives us a glimpse into the life of a person with cancer and a big supportive community. The work is two A1-sized panelled work.

Artist Bio

I'm a Deaf artist, born in and living back in Melbourne after a number of years in Adelaide, South Australia. I have been practicing my arts for 18 years and exhibiting for the last decade and most recently as an international artist in Europe.

I work with watercolour, ink, gouache and mixed media to communicate my stories, transcribing perceptions of the world today and way back many thousands of years ago. Some of my works also focus on preserving history of places around local areas and afar, often on request of others and those works convey in my style of the places I paint. Sometimes, for a lighthearted comment, I paint a volkswagen adventure or doggy adventure to entertain and bring a smile to people's faces.

My studio is open for visits, so contact me to organise a studio visit. My studio is located 2 hours outside of Melbourne, but I am able to have studio visits in the city during the week in business hours between 10 am and 5 pm, and I require at least 24 hours notice on city visits.

I am starting to move towards working with acrylic and oils on abstract and semi-abstracts as well as imagery with evolved ideas and 2019 will bring new works that sees evolution in my works.
