Artwork Description

I have long been drawn to the artist, Frida Kahlo and have asked myself numerous times why this is. I think it's her resilience, her strength to carry on through adversity and her affintiy with animsls, which I relate to so much.
I often explore the pride and courage of women, especially in times of hardship, and Frida encaptures all of these traits.
Here, I have added animals that are present in some of her artworks, highlighting that even through injury and pain, we find a way to carry on and we find the beauty and joy in life to give life meaning.
Frida was known to love deeply, to have a passion for her home land, Mexica and of course, for her art. She adorned herself in beauty to distract from her struggle and she painted as therapy and to understand herself more thoroughly. I think that many artists and many women, recogise themselves in Frida.
I chose a blue background, inspired by the stone torquoise. A beautiful stone that she sometimes wore, and blue/green. The colours of communication and healing.
