With this artwork, I would like to acknowledge the resilience of all women.
I am inspired by fairy stories and fantasy. This work was started during a theatre performance about the strenth of women and has found it's own story and own voice naturally.
'The red star finally had to satisfy her curiosity. She dived from the sky and plunged into the depths to speak with the koi.
“Little koi. I have been watching you and I have to ask.. what keeps you going?
I’ve seen you get struck by another fish and have to hide in the reeds for three days with no food. I saw you lose your babies and heard your heart break, like a slow crack of thunder. I saw you abandoned by your family and yet, you keep swimming. Sometimes against the strongest current. You rest your wounds and keep going. But why? When will you give up?”
The koi swam up to look her in the face, un-flinching.
“Because I know that there is always life around the corner. After each moment of hurt, I’ve been held by those who love me. I’ve had moments of gliding with the current and feeling the rush of water along my scales. I’ve seen the sun stream in and light my path with crystal. And now, you’re here. Had I given up, we never would have met”
And with that, the koi swished her tail and kept on swimming.
The Red star, amused and enthralled, was so glad she’d kept a watch on every corner of the waters and had spotted the little koi.’
