Artwork Description

North Avoca Sunrise.

The best place to start a new day.

The elements are at shift handover with wispy clouds unsure whether to join each other in the emerging light and promised warmth.
Or float further out to sea. It is the slowest and fastest part of the day. Dark rocks and dark water are quickly losing their night cloak with slivers of shine and light shadows dancing on the now smooth rocks.

Or is that crabs moving for better cover. The sun is burning through the darkness and colours rip at each other in reds, oranges and yellows with the purples and blues appearing almost as collateral damage.

The waves are now visible and the wash is now foaming white across the rocks.

The breaking spray is floating in slow motion as if waiting for the rising sun to finally assert its dominance.

The best gold found on Earth is about to roll across the horizon. All your senses feel renewed. Another fresh start for all and a new page yet to be written. The night is in retreat and the fast changing colours trumpet the new energy, new air in a new day.

Artist Bio

Cheryl Willcox is an Australian oil painter known for her luminous, impressionistic paintings of lily ponds, coastal landscapes, and expressive florals. Based on the Central Coast of NSW, Cheryl draws daily inspiration from the rock shelves, ocean light, and abundant plant life surrounding her home.
A professionally trained artist and lifelong educator, Cheryl blends traditional realism with bold, intuitive brushwork. Her paintings are built in layers, capturing movement, energy, and the subtle shifts of colour and light that define the Australian landscape.
Cheryl’s work is deeply autobiographical — each painting holds a memory, a feeling, or a moment from her everyday life. Widely collected across Australia and internationally, her paintings offer a quiet, uplifting presence in the home, inviting viewers to pause, breathe, and reconnect with beauty.
