Oil on stretched canvas, ready to hang.

Terrigal Skillion

This imposing landscape feels like an eternal statement of lands confrontation with the boundless Pacific Ocean. The history of rising and falling seas and buckling land mass has gone on before our time and will continue well after we are gone.

The colours of the Skillion change throughout the day as the early sun draws out the warmth of the sandstone or the later shadows provides cool tones of wet slate.

A magical place to be at any time of the day, this landscape puts people in their place as spectators at best. The tides of the ocean invade and recede as the struggle of land and sea cycle through each day and each century.

With or without people these forces continue their stubborn battle of change, both feeding from each others resistance with shape and shadows, sand and pebbles, colour and texture.

Where giants collide. Nature, the ultimate artist.

The back waters of our local lagoon (Avoca Lagoon) secludes itself from visitors and tourists. Even locals sometimes.
Far from the crashing beach entrance and the energetic dogs and noise of the children, this is where the quietness of water, light and shadows come to rest around sleepy islands.
All different physical elements but all appear to be in peaceful balance with each other. Time to sit, draw and let the surroundings paint themselves.

All the elements seem to be sharing part of themselves with each other and the shadows are only extensions of light, water and a mirage of an island. Phantoms of a physicality that draws you into illusions of light, space, shade and shadows.
The Back Waters have their own magic that is best experienced without the crowds and a timepiece.
This painting has been inspired by the view from the lookout (Lincoln Rock) at Wentworth Falls in the Blue Mountains NSW. It forms part of the Blue Mountain Series series of that relates to the blue mountains.

The afternoon shadows envelop most of the landscape, imparting a sense of tranquility and quietude. However, the higher peaks and hills in the distance are untouched by the shadows. Bathed in golden light, these elevated forms seem to emanate warmth and radiance. The light, elegantly traces its way across the terrain and extends to the distant ridges.

In the foreground, small native shrubs, red grevillea and yellow
wattle, stretch out beneath the observer's feet.
Their textured details contrast against the backdrop of the deep and shaded valley.

The tranquility of the valley, the radiant hills, and the gnarly native shrubs collectively inspire a sense of awe and wonder.Horizontal Lily pads floating in a blue Pond.
The sunlight is streaming through the reeds at the far end of the lily pond.
