For the last decade I have been working with a laser machine cutting plexiglas and wood panels. These thin and rigid materials allow me to think spatially, building 3D models with layered and interlocking elements. I also use needle and thread to draw delicate motives on the surfaces of my works through laser-guided pathways, either to join different elements or to draw coloured patterns on their surfaces.
The process is laborious but the results are very satisfying: no longer the intricate, naturalistic images we associate with embroidery but delicate geometric compositions of tensioned yarns reminiscent of fine technical rendering. I like to mix different materials, traditional needlework and laser technology to create fresh and unique prototypes which cannot be found elsewhere. Each of my design is part of an ongoing study and production. Everything is flat packed for safe shipping and in case of 3D compositions you will need to slot small elements into the main panel. (but it's a really simple and intuitive operation!) They all have a hanging ring or sawtooth attached to the frame. Plexiglas looks fantastic but can be difficult to photograph. All the reflections and shadows describe well the nature of the material.
