Artwork Description

London Arch was formerly known as London Bridge, but the mass joining the arch to the mainland collapsed. It is a classic example of coastal limestone landscapes undergoing continuous erosion by the sea.

One of the attractions along the Great Ocean Road, Victoria, you really have to be there to feel the sea beating against the coast and the granduer of the landscape.

I used rare and precious natural materials like lapis lazuli and botanical indigo, together with Australian ochres in acrylic mixed with phosphorescent paint to create intense colours that reflect the power and immensity of the landscape.

The painting is on canvas stretched over heavy, solid timber. It needs a wire across the back for hanging. If you would like me to attach it for you, please let me know prior to shipping.

Artist Bio

Chih Chan (陈志民) is based in Melbourne. His specialty is in creating art from self-made paint derived from natural earth pigments and gemstones such as genuine lapis lazuli, turquoise, chrysocolla, malachite, garnet, crushed diamond, Australian ochre, and other rare or unusual gems. Real gold leaf is also often included, together with fluorescent, phosphorescent, and optically variable pigments.

Chih believes that through art, and imagination, one is able to get a glimpse of whole worlds hidden within a grain of sand. Through the creative process, we can visualise the forms that will not only throw light on the beauty and wonder of the world we live in, but also enable us to transcend the physical limitations of time and space.
