Artist Bio

I was educated at Christ Church Grammar School in Perth and on leaving school I began a five year apprenticeship as a jeweller with Sinclair Jewellers in Applecross. On completion I moved to Sydney to work with Musson Jewellers and then to England, working in Hatton Garden and then with UK designer, Paul Spurgeon. While living in the UK, I took the opportunity to visit art galleries all over Europe, seeing the great art works of the world, first hand.

On my return to Perth in late 2004, I set up my own jewellery studio and spent my spare time painting. To enhance my jewellery knowledge I studied and became a qualified gemmologist, with a Diploma from the Gemmological Association of Australia. Despite the fact I enjoy creating individual pieces of jewellery for my clients, my passion for painting has taken the majority of my time.

In 2010 and 2012 I entered the Jewellery Association of Australia Australian Diamond Awards and was a finalist on both occasions. Furthermore, I was a finalist in the South Perth Emerging Artist Awards in 2010, and in 2014 I was a finalist with 2 paintings in the prestigious Fleurieu Landscape Awards in South Australia.

In 2015/16 I took a sabbatical and travelled to Bogota, Colombia to study with local Artist and Sculptor Alfredo Araujo Santoyo. I worked with Alfredo on a variety of projects, from life size statues to 60 metre murals. I concentrated particularly on studies of the human form, both as an artist and sculptor, and i was able to augment these studies at the Fabula Art Academy in Bogota.

In 2013 I held an exhibition of paintings in a pop-up gallery in South Perth and on my return from Bogota I exhibited the results of my year in Colombia at the Ferguson Foundry Gallery in Perth.

Since my return, I have opened my own studio, art gallery and jewellery workshop in Mt. Lawley. A combination of all my passions.
