Artwork Description

The ephemeral beauty of a rose as it reaches maturity and starts to fade. Every stage of the life is fleeting, yet perfect in its own way.

Artist Bio

Nestled in the heart of beautiful Queensland, my life and art are deeply entwined with the vibrant landscapes and the luminous quality of light unique to this region. My journey as a painter has been one of continuous observation, exploration, and reverence for the world around me. The lush hinterlands, sunlit coastlines, and flourishing gardens of Queensland are not merely the backdrop of my life—they are the very essence that shapes my artistic vision and dedication to painting.
My practice is rooted in traditional methods and materials, with a focus on realism. I work primarily in oils, watercolour, egg tempera, and graphite—each medium offering its own expressive potential and technical challenges.
• Oils: With their rich pigmentation and slow drying time, oils allow me to build subtle layers and create depth in my portraits and landscapes. The tactile process of mixing pigments and manipulating texture on canvas echoes the patience and care I dedicate to every subject.
• Watercolour: Watercolour’s translucency and fluidity make it ideal for capturing the fleeting qualities of light and movement in florals and seascapes. The unpredictability of the medium invites moments of spontaneity, resulting in works that feel alive and immediate.
• Egg Tempera: An ancient technique, egg tempera demands precision and a steady hand. I am drawn to its luminous finish and the way it accentuates fine detail, making it perfect for botanical studies and intricate fauna. Adding the luminosity of 23k gold makes each piece a work of beauty and grace.
• Graphite: Despite its simplicity, graphite is a powerful tool for exploring form, value, and composition. Preliminary sketches in graphite lay the foundation for many of my finished pieces, distilling the subject to its most essential lines and shadows.
