Artwork Description

This painting is one of four in a series called "Farm Pets".

These paintings pack a lot of punch with the bright pop and pastel colours. They show an aerial landscape scenes of farm animals. Their bodies cast strong shadows, suggesting an afternoon sun.

This concept was inspired by my travels through Murphy’s Creek, a connecting backroad from the north of Toowoomba to the Brisbane freeway corridor (Queensland, Australia). But this could be any country, farm or outback scene. My interest in depicting aerial scenes, is my mind capturing what I think the view looks like from above contrasted with unrealistic colours that will brighten the indoor world they will be hung in – hopefully your home.

They would look great together as a collection of 4 in a grid or displayed in a line and framed.

*Please note this artwork comes in a natural frame.

Artist Bio

I am a contemporary acrylic painter living in Toowoomba, QLD, Australia. My landscapes are inspired by where I live, a sub-tropical and semi-arid environment of the Darling Downs. I love the countryside and country bush. My colour palette explores earthy colours of shades of greens and blues along with orche with pops of magenta. Sometimes my style is semi-realistic as I love to exaggerate colour with an aim to capture the essence of the subject matter. Currently, I am is interested in the interplay between light and shadows, aerial perspective as well as the liminal space between landscape and still life.

I am a qualified Visual Arts Teacher with a Graduate Diploma of Education. I have my Bachelor of Creative Industries (2009) and Diploma of Visual Arts (2007). Prior to teaching, I worked as an Education & Professional Development Coordinator at Flying Arts Alliance Inc. My most recent exhibition was a group teacher exhibition at Rosalie Gallery, QLD.

My artistic journey has always been there but as you can imagine, having a family and working full time is a juggle. Notable achievements include being selected to exhibit at the Grammar Art Show, Toowoomba (2024), being selected as a finalist in the Salon des Refuses [Online] Lethbridge 20 000 Small Art Award, Lethbridge Gallery (2025 & 2024), and in the Lethbridge 10 000 Small Scale Award in 2016 and 2015; a Finalist in the Open Category, Independent Education Union Awards in Excellence for Art and Design (2027); the Moreton Bay Regional Art Awards in 2014 and 2013, and Queensland Regional Art Awards and Boarder Art Prize in 2011.
