This painting is part of a series, House Plants in Glass Vessels. Many people like to have greenery in their home - a way of bringing the outdoors in and connecting with nature. I am no green thumb, so I like plants that are hard to kill. I also like glass vessels to use as vases.
I am interested in capturing the light playing with transparent objects and how it casts a shadow.
This series as a whole is about our connection to greenery in our homes: bringing nature into the interior. The use of various glass vessels is important in communicating the domestic interior through an exaggeration of monochromatic pastel and bright colours. The focus of the painted plants contrasts the interplay between light and shadow of the object it is in.

Artist Bio
I am a contemporary acrylic painter living in Toowoomba, QLD, Australia. My landscapes are inspired by where I live, a sub-tropical and semi-arid environment of the Darling Downs. I love the countryside and country bush. My colour palette explores earthy colours of shades of greens and blues along with orche with pops of magenta. Sometimes my style is semi-realistic as I love to exaggerate colour with an aim to capture the essence of the subject matter. Currently, I am is interested in the interplay between light and shadows, aerial perspective as well as the liminal space between landscape and still life.
I am a qualified Visual Arts Teacher with a Graduate Diploma of Education. I have my Bachelor of Creative Industries (2009) and Diploma of Visual Arts (2007). Prior to teaching, I worked as an Education & Professional Development Coordinator at Flying Arts Alliance Inc. My most recent exhibition was a group teacher exhibition at Rosalie Gallery, QLD.
My artistic journey has always been there but as you can imagine, having a family and working full time is a juggle. Notable achievements include being selected as a finalist in the Lethbridge 10 000 Small Scale Award in 2016 and 2015, the Moreton Bay Regional Art Awards in 2014 and 2013, and Queensland Regional Art Awards and Boarder Art Prize in 2011. As well, I have had a few demonstration and feature articles published in Artist Palette in 2010, Australian Artist Magazine and Fine Art and Decorative Painting magazine in 2012 and 2011.
