Artwork Description

This is a painting of Emilie Floge - an Austrian fashion designer and the partner and subject of Gustav Klimt. I came across her image, unaware who she was but intrigued by her bohemian looks. I love her wayward hair and playful face, she looks kind and funny, maybe an extroverted introvert. I had to paint her.

The size of the work is medium / largish, somewhat taller in dimensions, but the pallet is soft and pretty so it is not overbearing. I personally feel it would suit above a sideboard, shelf, or dresser or styled with other objects/ works, especially shades. I think it it could really personalise a nook or sitting room.

The painting has been done on a repurposed canvas, so there are some imperfections of surface, but this adds to the charm of her character and story, however, this may not suit you if you are after a very polished look.

Artist Bio

Based in Melbourne, self taught and working with oils, I have been making art as far back as I can remember.

I am mostly drawn to the female form. Painting is meditative to me, and the reason I paint, I hope this translates into the work for the feeling to be shared.

I love experimenting with just about every art supply available - I have a serious and costly addiction. Maybe the experimenting is the creative process for me. It’s rare that I create my first mental image of a painting. The painting usually evolves and emerges over time after various versions have come and gone.

I am inspired by human experience - how a beautiful artwork, song or moment can make you stop in your tracks as though it has some kind of magic. I hope to paint forever.
