Artwork Description

I am an admirer of Burton Silverman, the great American realist artist and illustrator. He observed people and the ironies of urban life. I too love people watching and smiling at absurdity so during a Paris trip this scene caught my eye. The Dept. store window had mannequins draped in spring finery with their heads absurdly replaced by a topiary of flowers. The appartments, street lights and cars opposite were reflected in the window while the Parisians passing by were braced against the chill air. But the colours sang so this amusing scene demanded painting.

Artist Bio

I am a visual artist living in Perth, Western Australia. I paint mostly in oils on canvas, gouache on paper and acrylic and have been exhibiting for about 20 years. I have attended numerous short courses and workshops as well as Charles Sturt University summer school for 3 years but am predominantly self-taught.
I have been in many club exhibitions, 4 combined exhibitions with one other artist, 3 solo exhibitions and currently paint with a plein air group (painting on site) in Perth and surrounds.
My paintings are influenced by the colours of the semi- tropics of Brisbane where I grew up and my subjects vary from my love of observing people, the bush, and cityscapes, especially at night.
