My passion is for collage and mixed media which allow many creative possibilities. Found papers such as discarded tickets, catalogues, old newspapers, magazines, give a cross section of and insight into people's lives and it is fascinating to incorporate some of the grit, grain and texture of these otherwise discarded, waste materials into my paintings. Sometimes the collage can inspire or enhance a "story," sometimes it serves to provide another textural ground to further work upon and provoke a new direction. I am interested too in the lovely combination of cold wax, oils and collage to create layers, depth and complexity. Moving recently into an abstract direction has provided challenges and delights and I have been fortunate to have had great teachers along the journey.
I find that the very activity of making art gives one a meditative flow, and this enhances my life enormously.
