Artist Bio

An emerging abstract artist Claire Cassey's passion for painting and drawing started from an early age. Winning her first national colouring in competition at the age of six started her love for colour. Having been involved in design since leaving school at 15 years of age; art, fashion design and interior design Claire understands the placement of colour and shape to create something beautiful.

Her background in graphic design is what has drawn her to use of shapes in her paintings, in particular the arch with both it's feminine and masculine lines the arch represents many things. Never being one to shy away from colour it is the hot pinks of the summer sky or the turquoise blues of the stormy seas that make her see the world in abstract form which then relates to her paintings.

"I would best describe my work as intuitive abstract, I paint from the feel of a memory or the colours I see when a song plays. I love working on large scale canvas with acrylics and spray paints, often incorporating other mixed media. I use bold colour and layers to give each piece depth. I wake up thinking about painting and go to sleep dreaming of it."

Using mixed mediums on canvas; spray paints, acrylics, chalk paint pens and pastels these works have a lot of energy, where introspection meets a wonderful abstract narrative. Every piece tells a story but is open to interpretation.

Claire lives and paints in a 100 year cottage on the pretty streets of Birchgrove NSW with her son, rescue dog and two rescue cats.
