Claire Zorn is an artist, illustrator and award-winning author who lives and works in Wollongong, NSW. After graduating Western Sydney University with a degree in Fine Arts, Claire went on to study creative writing and has built a strong international career as an author. In 2019 Claire returned to her visual arts practice, illustrating and writing her first picture book No Place for an Octopus, published by University of Queensland Press. Since then her visual arts practice has focused primarily on landscape painting, drawing and mixed media. Claire works mostly from memory, focusing on the way stories, imagination and memory construct our connection to landscapes and places. Rather than directly depicting a literal place, Claire allows imagination to take over and creates works that are ,in a way, depictions of the wanderings of the mind. Her work is atmospheric and ethereal, with a strong focus on colour, composition and mark-making.
