Mixed Media on paper
Signed on the front.
This work is a response to doing various bushwalks in unfamiliar places. It is an attempt to capture the wonder of rugged landscapes and the beauty found in simply wandering. As opposed to being a literal representation of a place, my works are responses drawn from memory, where I allow my imagination to embellish and twist the experiences I had in a place, in this way the work becomes, at times, abstracted and impressionistic.
In making this work I focused primarily on using colour and mark-making to elicit atmosphere. I enjoy the tactile nature of working on paper and the ways oilstick, charcoal and pencil can be layered to convey texture and movement.
