Artwork Description

This delightful painting of autumnal rolling hills going into the high country of New South Wales and Victoria was inspired by a road trip that my husband and I did in May this year from Bowral to Melbourne. Everywhere was very dry and many of the paddocks were beige, but although distressing for the farmers who were handfeeding the cattle I saw an ethereal beauty in the Autumn colours against such a background. It is painted in in soft and strong yellows, oranges, greens and greyish blues, which will bring a feeling of coziness and warmth to your house. Measuring 76cm wide x 101 cm tall this painting needs a bit of space to be shown to full advantage.

Artist Bio

I am originally from Brisbane but now live permanently in Sydney.I am married with two children and two delightful grandchildren. From a very early age I started drawing and painting whenever I got a chance. After five years of art and art history at high school I majored in Art at Teachers College with a Distinction. I pursued a career in education and then rediscovered my love of painting through a short university course at the University of Southern Queensland. This was a life changing experience for me.I painted continuously for the next ten years and continued to study art at the Brisbane institute of Art and enrolled in further Summer Schools in Toowoomba. I became part of a painting group called “Ten plus One” who rented a studio at the BIA and we held regular group exhibitions.I have had 4 Solo exhibitions at regional state owned galleries and private galleries. My last solo exhibition was held this year in Marrickville.I was asked this year to be the Artist in Residence at the Bribie Island gallery, but I was travelling overseas so was unable to take up the offer.ARTIST STATEMENTArt to me is the process of making visual the essence of what is within. Art enables me to lose myself in the pursuit of expression and comprehension of the world around me. I am passionate about colour and its effects on our emotions, so my paintings pulsate with vibrant colour, dynamic composition and movement.I prefer the medium of acrylics, but I also use oils, mixed media and collage. My work is abstract or semi realistic in nature, and painterly. I have been greatly influenced by the Expressionist movement in art and my travels. I especially love painting flowers, mountains, and abstracts. The beauty of art is that it can touch the subconscious whilst inspiring our everyday lives. My paintings always take me on a journey that is both unanticipated and enjoyable and I can only hope that the art I create transports and delights my viewers as well.
