An Australian native tropical tree, the powder puff tree (Barringtonia asiatica) is known for its showy foliage. In fact, it only flowers when night falls and by morning these powder puffs of white have fallen on the ground. Here I wanted to paint the leaves big and overpowering, which is how I saw them when standing under the tree. From darker at the bottom, through a criss cross of leaves in the middle, to the light of tropical sunshine at the top, I felt it represented a path through life.
