Owl

A richly textured and layered painting of a night owl. This was inspired by an owl hooting outside our house at night. Small painting of an owl on a branch, with a multicoloured background. The owl stares straight at the viewer. It is a light tan colour, with a darker ochre wings. It is presented as a mysterious night being, full of wisdom. The surface of the painting is unique, never to be created painted in exactly the same way, as it has been layered with multiple colours, scrapped back, and layered again, giving a dense and unusual effect.

Clarissa Regan is a Sydney artist who works in ceramics, sculpture and painting. She holds a PhD from the Sydney College of Art, Sydney University. She lives in Sydney's south and takes her inspiration from local bushland and coastal walks. She has taught art workshops for many years and has won first prize for her ceramics in the Royal Sydney Easter Show on several occasions.
