Wagner's epic Opera, The Ring Cycle: Siegfried
Siegfried forges a new sword from the pieces left to Siegfried from his deceased father, Siegmund.
Mime and and Siegfried arrive at the cave where the Ring and the Golden treasure is guarded by the Dragon. Siegfried succeeds in slaying the Dragon, thrusting his sword through the Dragon's scales and into its heart. Upon withdrawing his sword, a spurt of blood gets on Siegfrieds hand and burns it. Siegfried involuntary puts his hand to his mouth thus tasting the blood. The bloods magic powers enable Siegfried to understand the voice of birds and the dark thoughts of Mime, who plans to poison him.
The bird tells Siegfried about the secret of the Ring and Brünnhilde, who awaits her rescue, trapped and in a trance within a ring of fire. The bird leads Siegfried to Brünnhilde, where Siegfried releases Brünnhilde from the ring of fire by breaking Wotan's spear with his sword and kisses Brünnhilde to awaken her.
