Performance

This painting is a family portrait of the artist, inspired by a performance given by her parents—her mother playing the violin and her father singing. She included herself in the scene by adding symbolic objects. One of these is a painting of a ballerina, which reflects her interest in figure painting and ties into the central theme of performance—as if the ballerina is dancing to the music created by her parents.

A sculpture included in the composition reflects her background and passion for sculpting, while a bunch of flowers and a bowl of apples in the corner reveal her love for painting still life. On the right, an abstract expressionist painting hints at her curiosity and appreciation for abstract art.

The sharp, graphic lines of the cupboard and chandelier point to her experience in graphic design and also serve as a visual metaphor for light, particularly the light from the chandelier. The figures are rendered as shadowy silhouettes, leaving their identities open to interpretation and allowing viewers to use their imagination.

I create to connect — not through direct conversation, but through visual presence. Painting allows me to express what I find difficult to articulate in person: moments of beauty, tension, grief, or wonder. Every canvas is a space where internal realities meet external form.

Art, for me, is not a performance. It’s a form of truth-telling. And in that space between expression and interpretation, I invite the viewer to find something of themselves.
