Artwork Description

This picture was painted in acrylic paint on stretched canvas and sealed with Holcroft medium and varnish. It was inspired by my witnessing the final landing of the 747 aircraft 'The City of Canberra' at Albion Park Reginal Airport where it was housed within the HARS Museum. The reference picture is a friend's photo of the landing. The 'City of Canberra' was the first 747 to fly non-stop from Sydney to London. Due to the small size of Albion Park's regional runway, s the final flight was different to the aircraft's normal service, and considerations were given to the manner in which the 747 was to be flown and landed. Illawarra residents marvelled at its huge size as it slowly glided over Wollongong and descended towards the runway at Albion Park.
