Artwork Description

Refer to Artist's Bio

Creativity, like love, leaves us vulnerable. It is a sacred offering, a piece of ourselves that we generously and bravely give. Our fear of rejection, disappointment and sadness can equally prevent experiences of joy, connection, and belonging. Multiple pieces speak to a pervasive not-enoughness that we can often feel. They also aid in telling a story, each page and mark conversing with the one made before and after. The works, in their honesty, resemble pages torn from a diary.

2 larger pieces 29.5 x 41.6 cm and 28.2 x 40.9 cm each
4 smaller pieces vary slightly and average 13-14 x 21 cm each

Artist Bio

Each of us sees the world through the lens of our own personal experiences, consequently, there is never only one way to look at life. Art offers us other ways of perceiving and being in the world.
My processes explore an interpretation of reality rather than a literal representation. Abstract narrations of felt experiences can challenge our need to label and categorise, however, it is an opportunity to bring equilibrium between the head and the heart.
By speaking to an inner psychological or emotional landscape, we can connect to each other beyond the limits of language. The works created, may be more suggestive of metaphysical maps, metaphors, or poetry.
Encouraging accidents and inspired risk taking creates a tension between what I can control and what is left to chance. This allows space for the unexpected and forms a beneficial everyday practice.
We live in a complex world, residing in a constant state of flux. Embrace the unknown, it is a messy place filled with ambiguity, paradox and beauty.
The imperfect and transient quality of our lives may be reflected in the surfaces used, such as found papers that may include: abandoned works, shopping lists, notes, and the cardboard backing of art paper pads.
