Afire Torch Ginger

We were on holiday in Port Douglas when we visited the small mountaintop town of Kuranda. Travelling on the famous Kuranda Train, we disembarked and I immediately saw the fabulous plants growing in abundance in and around the station. A Torch Ginger caught my eye for its outstanding colours and form. I knew as I took several photos that I had to draw it, hoping to capture even a small amount of its beauty and breathtaking colours. This Torch Ginger encapsulates all the beauty to be found in far north Queensland.

The piece has been created using high quality archival Coloured pencils on 640 gms Fabriano Hot Pressed Watercolour paper. All materials will last a lifetime if framed behind uv glass. For me, drawing is nurturing, empowering and a therapeutic escape from the daunting realities of life. From picking up the pencil as a young girl, to escaping into my art in the present, it has become wholeheartedly ingrained in me and part of who I am. I introduce myself as a Representational Artist. While the end result of my creating may seem like realism, it is in fact just a representation of what I have perceived as real.

I have gathered my skills from constant practice, engaging with other artists and experimenting with various techniques. Throughout the years I've discovered my love for the detail I can create using pencils, whether it's coloured, pastel, graphite or charcoal. Pencils allow me to take control of what emerges from my blank surface. Creating an animal or landscape that comes to life is mesmerising, I crave to see what textures, shadows, forms, lines and tones will merge together to create a life-like piece of art. I love hearing from my clients that my art has transported them into the eyes of the subject or they have found peace and happiness just by seeing the work on their wall.
