Artwork Description

The idea for Girl in Kimono stemmed from me wanting to expand on my drawing skills of the human form. As you can see from my other artworks, my subjects have centered on wildlife or flora. This piece was a lead in to experimenting with human skin tones while still concentrating on my love of detail which I could utilise in creating her kimono. The colours and patterns excited me and I found I loved drawing her hair and the softness of her skin. I am hoping the viewer will see the beauty and calmness that I saw and felt when creating this piece of art.
I created Girl in Kimono using 100% acid free drafting film as the surface with professional grade coloured pencils and soft pastels. The reference photo used with permission by Susan Roghair and with permission.
Please note that the styled scene, hanging and in situ setting with or without mat and frame is for display purposes only, and is not to scale. This is just to give you an impression of how this artwork may look on your wall.
A signed Certificate of Authenticity is included with the artwork.

Artist Bio

For me, drawing is nurturing, empowering and a therapeutic escape from the daunting realities of life. From picking up the pencil as a young girl, to escaping into my art in the present, it has become wholeheartedly ingrained in me and part of who I am. I introduce myself as a Representational Artist. While the end result of my creating may seem like realism, it is in fact just a representation of what I have perceived as real.

I have gathered my skills from constant practice, engaging with other artists and experimenting with various techniques. Throughout the years I've discovered my love for the detail I can create using pencils, whether it's coloured, pastel, graphite or charcoal. Pencils allow me to take control of what emerges from my blank surface. Creating an animal or landscape that comes to life is mesmerising, I crave to see what textures, shadows, forms, lines and tones will merge together to create a life-like piece of art. I love hearing from my clients that my art has transported them into the eyes of the subject or they have found peace and happiness just by seeing the work on their wall.
