Greetings from the immersive realm of my artistic journey. I am Corrine Rui Wen, a Chinese Australian artist, currently anchored in the vibrant city of Brisbane, Australia. My artistic odyssey has been a kaleidoscope of experiences, a journey that has led me to explore the depths of my soul and transcend the conventional boundaries of artistic expression.
2. A Journey of Academic and Artistic Evolution:
Years ago, I embarked on a relentless quest for knowledge, earning a postgraduate degree in International Business from the University of Newcastle and a bachelor's degree in Film Production from Edith Cowan University in Perth. This academic foundation not only honed my analytical skills but also laid the groundwork for my remarkable metamorphosis from the world of business to the enchanting realm of visual arts.
3. Inspiration Unveiled by Profound Experiences:
The transition from filmmaking to visual arts was not just a shift in mediums but a revelation inspired by a distinguished professor during my formative years. As someone who found dissatisfaction in many mainstream productions, I sought to create genuine art—works that resonate with depth, value, and authenticity.
4. Artistic Process: A Soulful Exploration:
Every stroke of my brush and every contour of my creations is a deliberate act in the continuous exploration of self. I aspire to create not just visually pleasing pieces but to elevate the observer's mental and spiritual state. My artistic process is not confined to skill enhancement; it is a profound journey of self-discovery and a genuine quest for the mysteries of existence.
5. Philosophical Underpinnings:
Influenced by the threefold realm philosophy of the Song Dynasty Zen master Qingyuan Xingsi, I perceive life in stages—initially observing life in its purest essence, transcending the ordinary when enlightened, and returning to the realisation that mountains are still mountains and water is still water.
6. Surrealism as a Philosophical Medium:
I use surrealism as a philosophical medium to question the nature of reality and explore the boundaries between imagination and truth. Rooted in surrealist tradition, my work delves into dreamlike spaces where the conscious and subconscious meet, encouraging viewers to reflect on the mysteries of existence. Inspired by the surrealist philosophy, I aim to transcend conventional perceptions, offering art that challenges the observer’s understanding of what is real and imagined.
7. Personal Artistic Focus：
My artistic journey spans diverse mediums and themes. My earlier works predominantly feature acrylic paintings, showcasing a range of styles and subjects. Currently, I am focusing on watercolor, a medium that allows me to explore the delicate interplay of light, color, and texture. My watercolor pieces celebrate the timeless beauty of landscapes and architecture, with a particular emphasis on Italian culture—from Florence’s Renaissance streetscapes to Tuscany’s serene countryside. Additionally, I capture scenes featuring animals, human figures, and other subjects that inspire me. Each creation aims to evoke a sense of wonder and emotional connection, offering viewers a glimpse into the fleeting yet profound beauty of our world.
