Moyo Wa Kiburi 2 (Heart of the Pride) - African Lioness & 2 cubs

The fierce protectiveness of a lioness for her cubs is so strong she will risk her life defending them against a threat. The threats are numerous even other lions particularly big males wanting to take over the pride. The harshness and brutality of survival for these animals in Africa has always inspired the painter in me wanting to capture that incredible power and strength.

Sharing the beauty and wonder of nature through my paintings feels so necessary in a world undergoing profound change where animals are experiencing such pressure to survive. I like to challenge my abilities, to convey the magic of the natural world and my respect for it. My work is mostly a hybrid of abstraction and realism, often experimental, growing and changing with my explorations but always responding to my subject and what I want to say about it ​using a variety of media, paint and collage.
